The Daily sports Korean newspaper reported an interview with master Ki c. yoon on May 16, 1977. He spoke of beginnings of hap ki do.

In ancient times when Korea was divided into 3 kingdomes, Buddhist monks began studying animals, birds and reptiles nothing how certain strikes made their prey helpless. Two ancient Buddhist Priests, Sia San Dea Sa and Sa Mong Dea Sa, trabition tells us, used these special secret skills to defeat the monarch's enemies. These techniques, when refined over time, provided the special skills to the king's Guard later the president's bodyguards, to defend and protect the leaders of korea.

In describing the art of the hap ki do, Master Ki emphasizes that self-defense techniques are just one hap ki do. As important, is the education of the maid, "In Kyon malsa". This means a good knowledge of one's knowledge of Martial arts.

The techniques of hap ki do liken the hand to a knife and the fingers to the spear. Along with the hand technique is the use of abdomen breathing which centers the body's power in the abdomen. This is called one's "Ki", the centre of one's power. Hap ki do uses the power of the opponent, speed, acupuncture pressure points and joint locks in it's defensive style. There are basically 270main techniques, which with their offshoots result in over 4000 defensive moves. When combined with offensive moves, this results in over 100,000 martial arts techniques. Master Ki believes that knowing just 50 techniques well is sufficient to protect one from ones enemies.
